BUCKEYE HARDWOOD IS A COLLECTION OF EXPERIENCED AND TALENTED CARPENTERS WHO, SINCE 2000, HAVE DEDICATED THEMSELVES TO THE DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF HARDWOOD FLOORS We are a small company focused only on this very small niche in the field of carpentry. We occasionally hang doors, build stair systems, install interior trim, and – in the past year – have built a few Ipe decks. Site-finished hardwood floors are the result of old-school carpentry. We hand-pick each of the ingredients and cook the entire meal. Buckeye Hardwood is 100% accountable for the performance of our site-finished floors. We are not a retailer of flooring that just happens to have a list of installers – sub-contractors whose workmanship is not warranted. We are in the business of making homes more beautiful, not to just push product. MEN WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL TO DO WHAT WE DO ARE A DYING BREED In 1966, homes with wall-to-wall carpet became eligible for VA and FHA home loans. Home-builders across the country jumped on this cheaper bandwagon. The sale of hardwood floors plummeted. The public, as well, bought into the whole carpeting campaign. Homeowners in the 60’s and 70’s believed that carpeting was superior to hardwood floors. People actually carpeted over hardwood floors. I enjoy telling people this story because it reveals the power of advertising in lieu of educating. The immediate result of this carpet trend was that skilled hardwood floor installers left the trade. They had families and no work. When they left, they took their skill and knowledge with them. There was not a new generation of hardwood floor installers to follow them. Sales of hardwood flooring declined steadily, bottoming-out in 1981. In 1981 the National Associating of Flooring Manufacturers and the National Wood Flooring Association responded to this shrinking pool of qualified installers by creating the NOFMA/NWFA flooring school, held twice per year in Memphis, Tennessee, for one week (and a substantial fee). Flooring experts from all fields teach installers and contractors from all over the world the techniques to properly install, sand, and finish hardwood floors. Each student upon successfully completing a final exam is given a diploma. From the time this school was established, until 2007, sales of hardwood flooring have risen. The school actually quantifies the power of knowledge. It is also important to note that the volume of hardwood flooring sold in 1966 was not surpassed until 2002. I understand that there were several factors that may have caused the meager sales figures of 1981, but in the end, educating the contractor/installer (who, in turn, went home and educated his work force and consumer) pulled the hardwood flooring industry from its tailspin. Heck, several clients have had Buckeye Hardwood remove carpet and re-finish those hardwood floors installed prior to 1966. ASK TOM I, Tom, am an accomplished carpenter whose specialty is assisting in the selection of species, accents, borders, grade, and width that “pulls” your room or house together and makes it beautiful. I feel that today’s woman is already stretched for time and as a carpenter/flooring/redecorating expert, I can take the confusion out of her flooring purchase. I attended The Ohio State University (to teach vocational students) and graduated with the 44th NOFMA/NWFA sanding installation and finishing class in March, 2001. When I say Buckeye Hardwood installs the finest floors in the world, I have the piece of sheepskin to back it up. SHOWS
